Nathan Bayless

In early summer, Nathan complained of having pain in his back. After an hour or so the pain would go away. This happened 2 or 3 times this summer. The first time lasted no more than an hour or two, and then he played normally as if nothing happened. The second time he had complained of his back hurting on and off for about three days.At first we related the pain to bangs and strains that any 9 year old active boy would have, but then the one night after going golfing he started to complain of his back hurting, again we assumed it was related to playing eighteen holes of golf. That evening he started complaining of the back pain again except this time the pain become so intense that we had to take him the ER. We never expected the news when the doctor told us the CT scan revealed a mass on his 11th rib. Nathan was taken to Women and Children's hospital for more test and eventually a biospy of the tumor to confirm it as Ewing's Sarcoma (a form of bone cancer that occurs primarly in children). Nathan is scheduled to receive chemotherapy until May with a short break during the second week of December for surgery.
