Emma was diagnosed with Ewing's sarcoma (a rare form of bone cancer) in her spine on March 22, 2008.  Treatment at The Children's Hospital started immediately.  This included emergency surgery on her spine to relieve the pressure on her spinal cord. Her treatment included 14 rounds of chemo therapy and 25 days of radiation which were completed in November 2008.

Initially the tumor put so much pressure on her spinal cord Emma could not  walk.  The surgery removed a good bit of the tumor and then with the help of physical therapists at the hospital Emma progressed from a wheelchair to a walker.  Eventually she was able to walk on her own has made a 100 percent recovery.

On July 8, 2009 Emma had a double spinal fusion, front and back. This was due to damage from the initial surgery and the radiation treatment. One of her ribs was taken out and fused in the front and then two rods and 24 screws were put in her back.  Almost 15 hours of surgery.

Treatment has been rough at times but Emma holds her own and we all hope and pray for a complete recovery.
